Week-long Intensive Storytelling Workshop with Milbre Burch
Based in Chapel Hill, NC, Milbre Burch is a GRAMMY-nominated spoken word recording artist and an internationally known storyteller. She has released numerous award-winning spoken word recordings on her solo label, Kind Crone Productions. Featured at the National Storytelling Festival eight times since 1984, she has performed at Storytelling, Theatre and Spoken Word festivals across the US, and in festivals and residencies in Europe and Asia. In May 2019, Milbre returned as a Teller-in-Residence to the International Storytelling Center in Jonesborough, TN.
A teaching artist since 1978, she has toured or taught for the Music Center on Tour (CA), the Lincoln Center Institute (NY), and local, state and regional arts councils from coast to coast. With her media historian husband Berkley Hudson, she created the archival Storytelling Project of the Cotsen Children’s Library housed at Princeton University. In February of 2020, Milbre co-produced The Gathering, a collaborative workshop with Heather Forest and Laura Simms in Chapel Hill.
Also a produced playwright and a published poet and fiction writer, Milbre received her PhD in theatre and performance studies at the University of Missouri in 2014. She publishes and performs her scholarship on the use of storytelling strategies to highlight social justice issues. She is currently a freelance touring and teaching artist, and a Research Collaborator in American Studies at the University of North Carolina.
